Préalpes of the French Riviera: the Alps on the sunny side
Located northwest of Nice, the Préalpes d’Azur were born from the union between the mountains and the French Riviera. The landscapes here are preserved and wild: vertiginous valleys or wide cultivated valleys, forests… With more than 2000 plant species, the Park is home to a third of France’s flowers and plants, including 65 species that are protected and 40 species that are found nowhere else. Ornithologists have the opportunity to observe a large number of species: rock ptarmigan, pipit rousseline, ladder tichodrome, boreal chickadee, blue monticole… Outdoor activities are numerous. The amateurs of walking will walk along the numerous marked trails. You can also discover the roads of the Préalpes by bike, practice climbing or canyoning, try your hand at via ferrata or tree climbing, or admire the Park from the sky by paragliding… The medieval villages of the Préalpes are a reminder of a very ancient human occupation. During your visits, you will be able to admire bread ovens, historical milestones, wash houses, wells, medieval castles, oppidums… Mountain agriculture is practiced in the Préalpes. The local markets and traditional grocery stores will invite you to discover the local flavors: honey, gingerbread, mountain cheese, lamb meat, farm and market garden products, olive products (oil and pasta)…
