The Natural Park of the Préalpes d’Azur
From the marriage between the French Riviera and the mountains of the Alps were born the Préalpes d’Azur. The landscapes are both grandiose and wild: vertiginous gorges or wide cultivated valleys, forests… Under the sun of the Préalpes d’Azur more than 2000 plant species flourish, including 40 species found only in the region. Numerous animal species also thrive in the Préalpes: golden eagle, European owl, Jean-le-Blanc circaète, mad bunting, fir crossbill, red-billed crab, ortolan bunting, European nightjar, rock ptarmigan, pipit rousseline, rock swallow, red-backed shrike, white-fronted redstart, boreal chickadee, black grouse, ladder tichodrome, Orsini’s viper, white-footed crayfish, Strinatii’s hydromant, a wide variety of bat species…

You can also set off to discover a cultural heritage that can be discovered during visits: fountains, wash houses, wells, chapels, churches, oratories, bread ovens, grain mills, irrigation canals, bridges, dovecotes, oppidums… Mountain agriculture is dynamic in the Préalpes. Markets and grocery stores will invite you to discover local products: honey, mountain cheese, lamb, vegetables and fruit, olives, olive oil, citrus liqueurs, crystallized flowers…
