The ancient city of Glanum

Near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the Salyens, a Celto-Ligurian people, built a fortified oppidum on a trade route through the Alpilles. The town grew up around a spring considered sacred.

Influenced by the Greeks of Massalia, Glanum was conquered by the Romans. Major works were undertaken, and Glanum became a powerful city.
