By taking the ridge road between Cassis and La Ciotat, we discover the cliffs of Soubeyran which overlook the coast. The highest point is Cap Canaille (399 meters), the highest cliff in Europe.
Between Cassis and La Ciotat, the route des Crêtes approaches the sky and winds its way to the top of the Soubeyran cliffs. The Cap Canaille, with an altitude of 399 meters, is the highest point of the massif and the highest sea cliff in Europe.

The route des Crêtes winds its way between the limestone poudingues, to join Cassis, a Roman fishing port that has become a renowned seaside and climatic resort, to La Ciotat, an old industrial city that is now a popular tourist destination.

Under the protective silhouette of the Gardiole cliffs and the Cap Canaille, Cassis seduces with its fishing port, its shopping center, its restaurants and its beaches. The village is nestled in a preserved setting, with its hillside vineyards that produce quality vintages, and its creeks that stretch west to Marseille in a succession of coves. The view from the Cap Canaille is exceptional, and allows to embrace Cassis, the hills of Provence, the islands and the mineral and marine landscapes of the Calanques National Park.

Several viewpoints will open up to you as you pass Cap Canaille in the direction of La Ciotat. You can stop for a few minutes at a belvedere, or take one of the many marked paths to explore the ridges. Cap Canaille is also a famous site for rock climbing, with easy sites and big routes reserved for the more experienced climbers.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

From Cassis, you can reach Cap Canaille by taking the D141 road. The route des Crêtes is indicated by several road signs.

From La Ciotat, you can follow the whole route des Crêtes up to Cap Canaille, by taking the D141 road.
