The Verdon Canyon is surely one of the most beautiful canyons in Europe. It is said to be the largest in Europe with 27km long and sometimes 700 meters deep. We will discover the first part of this canyon in trek/ packraft (ultra-light kayak). After about 1 hour of walking on the Blanc Martel trail, we will go down to the river to start the sailing with our packrafts. Get ready for a unique adventure, because you will be the only ones who can discover this canyon from below!
The guide welcomes us in the morning at the end of the course. After the explanation of the day, we leave with the guide’s vehicle at the starting point, at the Sublime point. This is where we start the adventure with the hike of the Blanc Martel trail.
We hike with our navigation equipment on our back (about 7kg) in the first part of the canyon. This is the opportunity to cross the first 3 tunnels and it allows us to avoid the big rapids of the Samson corridor and the Turbine. After a 45min walk, we leave the trail to go down to the river, that’s where we inflate the packrafts to continue the adventure...
After a briefing on the packraft, we embark on the Verdon. The section on which we sail is inaccessible on foot. The Blanc Martel trail follows the route but you only rarely cross it. We take advantage of this setting to take a lunch break on a deserted beach! We continue the descent by visiting the Artuby canyon that flows into the Verdon. We paddle a few more kilometers in this dream setting before reaching the beach of Estellier which will mark the end of the packraft section. Once on this beach, we fold the packrafts, put them in our backpacks and go on a trek out of the canyon. We take the end of the Blanc Martel trail that will lead us to the chalet of Maline. One hour walk with 400 meters of positive altitude difference to finish the day well !
