A century of Italian immigration and culture in France
The history of Italian immigration to France as told by Stéphane Mourlane (Lecturer in contemporary history at Aix-Marseille University).
The Italian presence in France is very old (Catherine de Medici, Leonardo da Vinci or Mazarin). It became massive between the end of the 19th century and the First World War, during the great emigration. Until the end of the 1960s, they were the most numerous foreigners living in France. Today, it is estimated that several million French people have Italian ancestry.
Through this conference, come and discover the contributions of these migratory movements and meet the figures of these Italian immigrants (workers, masons, farmers, craftsmen, shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, artists) who made France.
