During deer rutting season, enjoy an outing in the great outdoors listening to the bellowing and perhaps even observing the animals.
Verbal pursuits, sonorous languor, antlers clashing... these behaviours of the largest mammal in the forest have made it famous.

Early autumn is a magical time for those who appreciate nature's spectacles.

When do deer rut?
In our part of the world (France), deer rut between mid-September and mid-October. The rutting season can be delayed by one to two weeks depending on weather conditions. A hot summer usually means early rutting.

You can call us at the last minute to organise a guided outing or book in advance for the first two weeks of October.

What time should you go to see the deer rut?
All day and all night. To ensure the best viewing conditions, we offer either:
• A weekend in Ubaye (with accommodation in a bivouac) allowing for several viewing sessions at the best times and complete immersion in nature,
• An outing in the middle of the afternoon. The meeting time is around 5 p.m. (adjusted at the time of your booking) for a return around 8 p.m.
• An early morning outing at dawn: from around 7 a.m. until 9.30/10 a.m.
