A hike for everyone to one of the most beautiful and mythical landscapes in the Alps: Lac du Goléon, with La Meije in the background, mirrored in the lake! Technical and sporting level: medium (trail and off-trail, altitude difference 700 to 900m).
To reach Lac du Goléon, you'll set off from Valfroide, passing through several hamlets in the valley of the Maurian torrent. A steady climb will take you to a refuge, where the wardens can welcome you for a drink or coffee after lunch.
The refuge overlooks a splendid lake, a glacial relic with vegetation protected under Natura 2000 contracts. The flyshafts of the Aiguilles d'Arves tell the story of their incongruous birth during an underwater avalanche.
This mineral hike will also evoke the geological landscape of the Pays de la Meije. And maybe you'll come across a flock of sheep, their dogs and their shepherd or shepherdess? This will be an opportunity to learn how to behave in the event of an encounter with a herd, so that the mountains can be shared with respect and pleasure for all.
The hike can be adapted in length, elevation gain or duration: a short trip around the lake or around the lake and back down the same route as before (about 750 m of elevation gain in this case), or if you're feeling more motivated, you can do a loop around the Cruq des Aiguilles and come back down off-piste via a wild valley (add 150 m of elevation gain in this case).
