In 1940 at Val des Prés with Nicolas Izquierdo

  • History
La Vachette, 05100 Val-des-Prés
The resistance line passed through here: pillboxes, anti-tank blocks, trenches, Alpine shelters, observatory... I suggest you discover them in a magnificent setting, and for once you can stay on the flat! Even if some climbing is possible...
Several Savoyard invasions were halted at La Vachette in 1708 and especially 1709. In 1940, the Italians were stopped on the outpost line, but everything (?) was ready at Val des Prés. We'll be able to see everything, or just concentrate on one area.
We can ask Maxime to open the alpine shelter he has refitted as in 1940 (+4€), and maybe even make us a snack? This type of Metro tin shelter, in more or less good condition, can be found just about everywhere on the border, but it's the only one I know of that has its original equipment...
We can also talk about erosion and canals, question the Durance-Clarée confluence, appreciate a valley floor... you don't always have to climb to the top!

Remember to bring good shoes
