The museum was inaugurated in 1928 in the Kotschoubey-Thomson villa, a fine example of 19th-century neo-classical architecture. Its collections cover a broad spectrum of art history, from the 12th to the 20th century.
The painting, sculpture and graphic art collections date from the 12th to the 20th century. They include Flemish painting from the 17th century, and French sculpture and painting from the 18th to the 20th century: Vanloo, Fragonard, Dufy, Chéret, the Barbizon School, Bronzino, Gustave-Adolphe Mossa, Rodin and Carpeaux.
