The Boulevard de Garavan, built between 1882 and 1887, was designed by the architect Sylvain Jauffret. It stretches for 3 km and offers magnificent views of the city of Menton. Catherine Mansfield lived there from January 1920 to April 1921 in the villas Flora and Isola Bella.

To the right of the Vieux Château cemetery, the 3-kilometer Boulevard de Garavan, lined with pepper and carob trees, takes you to the Italian border. You'll pass enchanting villas built on what was once known as the "Babylonian dream", where gardens and architecture mirrored the "French Riviera" so dear to the English, who created exceptional harmonies of acclimatized plants.
You'll pass the Parc du Pian, a public park with six hundred olive trees over two centuries old (listed and protected by the Beaux-Arts administration). Below the boulevard, between Chemin Fleuri and the avenue bearing her name, is the Villa Isola Bella, where Katherine Mansfield, a British novelist of New Zealand origin, settled in 1920, in search of a better climate in which to treat her tuberculosis. It was here that she wrote her collection of short stories, Garden Party.
Once you've passed the Parc du Pian, you'll arrive at the Mirazur restaurant (3 Michelin stars) below the Pont Saint Louis border crossing, famous thanks to Gérard Oury's film "Le Corniaud" starring Louis de Funès and Bourvil.
Turn right onto Avenue Aristide Briand, and after crossing the railroad tracks, you'll reach the Promenade Reine Astrid and the Hanbury Fountain (also seen in "Le Corniaud"). A few meters to the left is the other border crossing. Turn right onto Porte de France to return to the center of Menton, where you can see the façade of the Chapelle Saint Jacques, a former oratory for travelers and pilgrims built in 1688, remodeled in the early 19th century in the Baroque style, now listed as a temporary art exhibition space.
From here, via avenue Saint Jacques, you can reach the Jardin Val Rahmeh (today's botanical garden), founded in 1905 by Lord Radcliffe.
The walk ends at the foot of the old town, from where you can admire the magnificent "postcard" view: old Menton with its colorful houses and, at the very top, the sumptuous Campanin bell tower.
