Ever wanted to understand better how to manage in a cold environment, with avalanche risks ? This special week-end "snow, cold, avalanche and igloo" with Anne and Montagnes and Sciences organisation is made for you !
Anne is a mountain guide, ski patroller and first-aid instructor; she is a certified instructor with ANENA (National Association for the Study of Snow and Avalanches) and holds a Ph.D. in Geosciences.
Anne invites you to explore, through hands-on workshops in the field, the various properties and mechanisms of snow transformation and heat transfer. We’ll touch, observe, smell, walk, and experience... And of course, we’ll learn the basics of how to protect ourselves (igloo building, avalanche risk management, and avalanche victim search).
The weekend includes (weather permitting):
• snowshoe hike
• basic knowledge of snow
• igloo building, cold management
• introduction to snow science and avalanche risk management
• introduction to avalanche transceiver use, simulated victim search.
Please note: this weekend is not a safety training course but an introductory weekend! For formal training, see the ANENA courses.
And for your family, friends, or group, feel free to contact me to organize a day, a weekend, or a trip tailored to your desires and needs (by personal arrangement)!
The starting point, route, and destination (between Villar d'Arêne, La Grave, and the Col du Lautaret) will be specified at a later date. These details are not guaranteed and may be subject to change depending on snow and weather conditions and/or the group’s progress. We will be traveling on snowshoes.
Required equipment: Avalanche safety kit (transceiver, shovel, probe; rental available). Snowshoes. Backpack. Waterproof hiking boots, hiking/ski pants, fleece, waterproof and windproof jacket (e.g., Gore-Tex), down jacket, gloves, and hat (+spare gloves). Emergency blanket. At least 1.5 liters of water or a thermos. Bring a packed lunch.
Rental and reservation of the safety kit are at your expense. Please arrange for on-site accommodation in advance.
No physical or scientific prerequisites are required. Expect a maximum elevation gain of 300m per day. Snowshoe rental available upon request.
