When Nice invented the Riviera - Guided tour

Rendez-vous : Centre du Patrimoine, 14 rue Jules Gilly, 06300 Nice
A city born of the holiday resort.
At the end of the 18th century, Nice was still a small town. The first foreigners to stay in Nice came to spend the winter season. They belonged to the aristocracy or to wealthy families. The benefits of the climate and the beauty of the landscapes were praised. At the beginning of the 20th century, a turning point occurred, Nice also became a summer and seaside destination. The result of welcoming tourists was a real city focused on this activity. Villas, palaces, investment properties, casinos and theatres were built. Crazy or wise, always fashionable, the architecture reflects the spirit of its time.
