At the foot of Mont Viso, in the heart of the National Reserve, Anselme and his team welcome you at 2460 m altitude from mid-June to mid-September. Accommodation in dormitories. You'll enjoy healthy, organic, home-cooked local cuisine.

The refuge is equipped with 65 dormitory places for 6 to 16 people, a sanitary area with solar showers, a lounge/library area and a terrace with an exceptional view of Mont Viso.
The cuisine is healthy and refined, using organic produce from the Hautes-Alpes region.
Anselme and his team welcome you to this corner of the world, far from civilization! You're guaranteed to recharge your batteries in nature's treasure trove!
The Refuge du Viso is located in the Queyras region on the Italian border, at the foot of the magnificent giant Mont Viso, which rises to an altitude of 3841m. The refuge sits on a large grassy plateau in a wide alpine cirque at an altitude of 2460m.
In summer, the refuge is open from June 15 to September 15. It also opens in spring for ski touring. But in the meantime, there's an accessible part of the hut that can provide shelter. Just leave it clean and tidy.
In winter, check the snow conditions for access to the refuge before you leave! A winter section remains open.
Bivouacs: authorized in the Ristolas-Mont-Viso National Reserve, but no more than 20m from the trail and no less than 500m from the refuge.

Tips
On February 5, 2025, the Club Alpin Français de Briançon reopened the Viso refuge, whose winter door had been damaged.
Thanks to all those who passed on the information!
The nuisance caused to users of the refuge in winter, the difficulty of climbing and the cost of a heliported intervention lead us to insist on the essential importance of reporting as soon as possible any problem with the accessibility of refuges in winter.

Set in a mountain pasture cirque at an altitude of 2460 m, the Viso Refuge welcomes backpackers.

Its isolated location makes energy scarce, so stays are tinged with picturesqueness. When packing your bag, don't forget your headlamp: there's no electricity in the dormitories! While the sun provides some of the refuge's energy, to recharge a phone (there's no network) or a camera, you have to pedal a strange bicycle that drives a generator.

Nonetheless, this Robinson aspect is anecdotal compared to the comfort of the refuge and the warmth of the welcome. The table is generous and comforting.
Whether you're a hiker, mountain biker, climber or mountaineer, the Viso refuge in its mountain setting is a must.
