Culminating at 3441 meters, this isolated summit between the Valgaudemar and Champoléon valleys offers an exceptional playground for mountaineering and hiking enthusiasts. Several mountain routes and marked paths allow to discover it, or to brave its cliffs, its crests and its vertiginous ridges.
Built in 2001, the Vallonpierre hut is made of stone and wood to blend harmoniously with the landscapes and the architecture of the Southern Alps. Equipped with spacious and bright dormitories, with comforters at disposal, with hot showers and toilets inside, it offers to hikers, climbers and mountaineers all the comfort dreamed for a high altitude refuge. It is located near a small lake with waters teeming with frogs.
The Vallonpierre hut is a welcome stop for those who want to climb the Sirac or the Pic de Vallonpierre. You can also stop here on the way to the Col des Chevrettes, the GR 54, the refuge de Chabournéou, or the Tour du Vieux Chaillol. It is also an ideal starting point for climbing the Banc des Aiguilles. You can also consider it as a goal in itself, and stop there for lunch or for a night in the mountains, in a grandiose and unique atmosphere.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
The Vallonpierre refuge can be reached in 2h30 from the Gioberney parking lot, at the bottom of the Valgaudemar valley. The difference in altitude of 700 meters makes this hike suitable for experienced hikers or those in good physical condition. We recommend that you bring walking shoes, water, energy bars, glasses and caps or hats in the summer season. You can also pack a warm garment and a waterproof jacket.
The refuge can be very busy during the season, so we invite you to reserve your night.

In the heart of the mountains, a lakeside refuge! This postcard-perfect image is what you might see if you stay at the Refuge de Vallonpierre.
Built in 2001, it welcomes hikers, mountaineers and families in search of fresh air and breathtaking scenery. The janitors, Florence and Guillaume, have 3 children of their own, who will be delighted to share their games with yours.
Facing the Sirac, on the Tour de l'Oisans itinerary, the refuge offers accommodation in dormitories for 9 to 13 people. Guillaume, behind the stove, concocts invigorating and delicious meals using local and often organic produce. To ensure that the bread is fresh every day, it is prepared on site using organic flour from the Trièves region.
