A restaurant with a panoramic terrace shaded by pines, olive trees and almond trees, with an exceptional view of the village and the vineyards of Châteauneuf du Pape.
Le Verger des Papes is built on the historic site of the summer residence of the Avignon Popes and stands on the heights above the village below the Château des Papes. The panoramic terrace, with the sound of the cicadas, in the shade of the pines, olive and almond trees, looks down on the village and the vineyards. It provides an exceptional view over Comtat Venaissin and Mont Ventoux to the east, Avignon, the Palais des Papes and the Luberon range to the south, and the Rhone and the first foothills of Gard to the west.
Philippe and Jean-Pierre Estevenin are natives of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and preside over the Verger des Papes. In 2001, after working at some of the greatest restaurants, they took over the restaurant set up by their parents, Henri and Annie Estevenin. They are continuing a long gourmet tradition, since the previous generations had a large number of restaurant owners, bakers, butchers - and, of course, winemakers.
Philippe and Jean-Pierre Estevenin produce an inventive, colourful and generous cuisine, with all the best of Provence. Magnificent fresh produce from the surrounding areas have pride of place.
The restaurant dining rooms, adjoining the ramparts of the Château des Papes, provide a warm and friendly setting for unforgettable meals.
