The Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label is a mark of recognition awarded by the French government to manufacturers with excellent craft and industrial skills.
It is here, in Tarascon, at the foot of the Alpilles mountains, that our master candle makers draw new creative inspiration from the know-how they have accumulated over the years to ensure that the history of the White Fathers lives on. The Ciergerie des Prémontrés is the last remaining Ciergerie in Provence.
All our products are handcrafted. Their quality is due to precise workmanship offering a unique finish.
Our exceptional candles are made using two manufacturing techniques dating back to the 15th century and more contemporary moulding:
Ladle moulding:
This is the haute couture of candles. This 15th century process, now abandoned by industry, produces exceptional candles with a very high wax density, unusual dimensions (up to 130cm high and 10cm in diameter) and wicks suitable for all candelabras. The wicks, attached one by one to a metal hoop, are coated with hot wax using a ladle. The beauty of the candle and the evenness of its diameter depend on the precision of a gesture repeated hundreds of times by the Master wax-maker.
Diving:
This technique creates tapered candles, i.e. thinner at the top. The cotton wicks used are arranged in a U shape on wooden sticks, fixed to frames and then dipped in wax heated to over seventy degrees. The number of dips depends on the final diameter required.
Moulding :
Statuary wax moulding requires an apprenticeship in traditional techniques and experience acquired after a large number of creations. The objects are finished by hand.
Our exceptional candles are made from carefully selected quality ingredients (beeswax, vegetable wax, mineral wax, natural pigments, essential oils, woven cotton wicks, etc.).
Each candle is the result of precise workmanship, offering a unique finish, longer life, exquisite colours and incomparably brilliant flames, for exceptional decoration.
For added safety, our devotional candles are treated to be non-flammable over the first few centimetres, automatically extinguishing the flame at the end of use.
