A Living Heritage Company in the heart of the Alpilles, La Ciergerie is a historic manufacturer. Wax objects, candles and tapers handmade since 1858. The workshop shop is open to the public from Monday to Friday, 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm.
The last candle factory in Provence, Ciergerie des Prémontrés has been perpetuating the ancestral know-how of the White Fathers of Prémontré Abbey since 1858.
Based in Tarascon, the entire team of candle makers is committed to respecting the methods once used for the artisanal manufacture of candles and tapers. These ancestral techniques date back to the 15th century and remain unchanged: the candles are made using a ladle or by dipping.
As each candle is handmade, no two candles are ever identical, making each product unique.
The more contemporary method of wax moulding requires learning traditional techniques and gaining experience through a large number of creations. Inspired by traditional objects and powerful symbols of our heritage, each mould is a tribute to French traditions and culture.
In 2008, La Ciergerie was awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, a distinction that highlights French companies with outstanding craftsmanship and industrial expertise. In the heart of the Alpilles, La Ciergerie des Prémontrés is a workshop steeped in history.
The Ciergerie shop opens onto the workshop, offering visitors the opportunity to see the different manufacturing techniques at work.
