Noves, whose origins date back to the 5th century BC to the Celto-Ligurian tribe Cavares, gathers its old village around the rock on which the castle used to stand and where only a few towering pines still remain. This village, where Petrarch loved Laura and sang about her in his poems, only became French under Louis XI. It was previously home to the Popes of Avignon, who made it their secondary place of residence. Visitors can appreciate the Romanesque church, the 12th century ramparts and the "Cuvée des Amours", a highly prized wine production.
