American painter and sculptor Joseph F. Askew, when he was only 25 years old at the Art Students League in New York, left for Vienna in the mid-1970s to learn the painting techniques of the old masters with the great master of fantastic realism Ernst Fuchs learn. Askew and Fuchs remained friends, indeed they became neighbors for many years: the American lived in Vienna for almost a decade and a half and then moved - like Fuchs - to the small artist town of Castillon on the French Riviera, where he still lives and works today.
