Top unusual farm accommodation

A yurt in a prairie, traditional Camargue dwelling places, a pod or a tree house… Farms in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur offer surprising accommodation, ready for adventure and great memories.

The traditional Mongolian yurt

Close your eyes and imagine a beautiful evening in the great outdoors in a lush green prairie at the foot of the mountains. With family or friends, you stare dreamily at the starry sky of the Verdon Natural Regional Park. Just below, no buildings or houses but a handful of yurts, the traditional habitat of Mongolian nomads. These big, round 28 m2 tents can take 4 people in a single room. Their interior decor is full of character: the furniture, painted and decorated in bright colours, has also been imported from Asia. Nevertheless, the exotic yurts labelled « Bienvenue à la ferme » are very comfortable unusual lodgings. You will immediately feel safe, in a cocoon. And what’s more, they are ecological!

The shepherd’s hut…

Or the dovecote!

Human habitats reveal lifestyles and traditions. The « mas » in the Camargue often have a dovecote, because in the olden days, pigeons were not only used as messengers but they were also appreciated as food! The former dovecote here has been revamped as a pretty, comfortable house labelled Bienvenue à la ferme for 4 people. Its wooded, rural but contemporary atmosphere takes you back through the history of Camargue traditions and is the ideal starting point to discover the salt beds, beaches and marshes of the Camargue Natural Regional Park. Just next to the dovecote, the former shepherds’ hut of the mas, which once housed several pastoral families. Nowadays they can house up to 4 people. It has a steep roof covered in reeds around its central pillar in an architectural style typical of the region.

The pod, a wooden cocoon

Or the treehouse!

We’re in for a warm evening and night. With its rounded, comforting design, the pod, an unusual accommodation in the form of a pointed arch, guarantees a relaxing experience in a cosy wooden cocoon. A lovely moment to share with the family or just as a couple. It can accommodate up to 4 people (including max 2 adults). Nestling under the oaks on the edge of a field of lavender, the pod is a good way of making the most of the beautiful Provencal natural surroundings independently: it includes a complete kitchenette and table and cooking ware so that you can cook, and even a bathroom with a shower. In the Var, you can also get up high and lay down your hat in a tree house, or go for a gipsy caravan, a safari tent, a wigwam tent, or a Mongolian yurt. Labelled Bienvenue à la ferme, the educational farm Le Moulin d’Espagne has a camp with 60 beds for experiences close to nature.
