The feudal castle belonged to the Princes of Orange, and was probably used as a secondary residence. Then, in 1678, the Hospices were established here. After the French Revolution, it was converted into a school for girls, and abandoned in 1904.
The Gigondas Hospice was built on a former feudal castle site encircled by ramparts. The site was famous for its pilgrimages and prayers in the 12th century, as at the time, many hospices were set up all over the country. Several vaulted rooms remain in the Gigondas hospice and within the ramparts, 3 or 4 very old abodes still boast doorframes, windows and ceiling of the time. In summer, the AOC Gigondas usesthis place for a sensory workshop!
