An arboretum unique in Europe for its altitude, the Marcel Kroenlein site nestles in Roure, a village in the Tinée valley at the heart of the Mercantour National Park, just ninety minutes from Nice.
The Marcel Kroenlein Arboretum is an incredible living museum! This amazing collection of trees overlooks the Tinée valley in the south of the Mercantour National Park. Between the Mediterranean and the Alps, spontaneous or established species, endemic or exotic, constitute a unique repertoire. A space of dialogue between nature, art and men.
- Lying on the sunny slopes near the village of Roure, overlooking the Tinée valley, the Marcel Kroenlein Arboretum is an exceptional heritage site. Initiated in 1987 by the great botanist to whom it owes its name, the project has been widely supported by numerous contemporary artists, creating a decisive link between art and nature.
At an altitude of over 1000 m, this marvellous collection of trees is the fruit of extensive scientific research. Whether native or introduced, a skilful cohabitation of species preserves the richness of biodiversity. More than 400 trees, including 137 exotic species, make this living museum a unique place of awareness and transmission, a precious heritage for the future and the pleasure of the eye...
