Once the capital of the Glaniques, one of the peoples of ancient Provence, Glanum is now a major archaeological site. The town became Hellenised as a result of contact with Marseille, and under Roman influence was endowed with grandiose public monuments, before disappearing around 270, the victim of barbarian invasions. Excavations have brought to light a residential area with a central courtyard lined with columns, streets with sewers, mosaics, thermal baths and the forum, all of which bear...
- It was not until the beginning of the 20th century that the ancient city of Glanum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence emerged from the ground. Although the city reached its peak during the Roman period, the archaeological site has revealed its Celtic origins and Greek influences. Perfectly redesigned to welcome visitors, the site is equipped with a mediation area that enriches the visit. A beautiful adventure in the heart of ancient Provence, which cannot be dissociated from its natural environment.
The perfect symbiosis between the relief, the soil and human activities (the cultivation of vines, olive trees and housing) has shaped the landscape and the environment.
