The ancient « Ponte » Square, built on the Riou creek, was the market square and used to be surrounded by archways built underneath the houses.
Place renamed "place section Tende-La Brigue" after the Second World War. This was the name of the committee set up to make Tende and La Brigue French communes. Built on the Riou torrent, it was a market square. Originally, it was surrounded by a gallery running beneath the houses. The islet where the fountain stands was occupied by buildings destroyed by bombing during WW2. At the corner of Rue de France and Place, stands the former Lascaris palace, built during the Renaissance. Continuing along the street towards the collegiate church, you enter the religious quarter. On the right-hand side of the curve, the house with its ashlar façade and pointed arch openings dates back to the 13th century, making it one of the oldest houses in Tendas.
