The 'Castrum druentioe', still called the Château of the Duc de Guise, is a former Celto-Ligurian oppidum built in a strategic location. It was fortified at the end of the Roman Empire and was a strategic point for keeping watch over the Durance Valley. A population of men-at-arms and shepherds lived at the base of the fortress.
