This Chapel was built from public contributions in thanksgiving to the Virgin for having saved the village and its population during the violent battles, in 1851, between the partisans of Napoleon 3rd’s coup d'état and the Republicans.
Built in 1853 on the foundations of the old Castle of the Dukes of Blacas (12th century), in 1986, it was handed over to an association whose aim was the preservation and the restoration of the building. Of all of the buildings in Aups it is, probably, the one the residents of Aups are the most attached. Every year, on the night of the 15th August, the Notre-Dame Virgin statue is carried in procession through the village streets.
