At the top of Saint-Etienne hill is the Saint Michel chapel (751-987) where Saint John is traditionally celebrated each year.
The Chapel Saint Michel is placed as a lookout on the plateau also called "Volturno". Its renovation was undertaken in 1989 by the "Estevenoun" association, the Rotary Club of Istres and other local associations. The new chapel was opened by a mass given by Fr. Abdon DONAIN June 23, 1993, on the occasion of the Saint John the Baptist. At the foot of this Chapel, a breathtaking view awaits you... The two ponds and many istreennes hills are at your feet in this place full of history...
