It is at this exact location that the former village of Montclar was during the Middle Ages. During the 15th and 16th centuries, the population slowly left this uncomfortable and hard of access place.
It was erected right where the first church of the village was. The name can only be from the 19th century, since the devotion to Our Lady of La Salette (name given to Virgin Mary by catholics) has only been established after its apparition in 1846, in front of two children at the top of the village of La Salette-Fallavaux, near Corps in Isère. A study on site confirms its date of construction in 1864.
