At 324 meters above sea level, it's a popular theme for hikers. Nice climb along an ancient Way of the Cross dotted with oratories (40-minute walk from the château).
Perched on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by Mediterranean trees, the chapel of Notre-Dame de Constance dominates the village of Bormes-les-Mimosas. In addition to the simplicity and harmony of its Romanesque architecture, it offers superb panoramic views. From the panoramic viewpoint adjacent to the building, your gaze is lost in the horizon, sailing from the deep blue sea to the hills of the Var hinterland.
This exceptional position made it a strategic surveillance site during the 2nd World War. Equipped with an underground tunnel and a firing window, it was a veritable fortified town. In 1943, it was occupied by Italian artillery. The site was abandoned after the Provence landings, on the night of August 16-17, 1944.
