Chapelle Saint Blaise

The old Romanesque chapel of Saint Blaise, erected by the weavers' and carders' association in honour of their patron saint, dates back to the 12th century. It became the seat of their Brotherhood in the 18th century. The Chapel was built of dressed stone and has a single central nave. The semi-circular entrance door is surmounted by an oculus, a small round opening that allows light to enter (religious symbol). On top of the chapel is a restored bell-turret whose bell, still used today, was baptised by Mme Claude Pompidou. The architecture of this chapel is characteristic of the sobriety and simplicity of Romanesque religious buildings in Provence in the Middle Ages.
