The parish church of Saint-Nicolas de Myre, one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in the Durancian Alps, dates from the second half of the 17th century.
It was built by the great merchant families who, through their generosity, wanted to assert their power and wealth in stone.
The church offers a striking contrast between the simplicity of its exterior architecture and the richness of its interior decoration. Its proportions and decoration are in keeping with the Baroque style.
The nave is wide and high, opened by a barrel vault with ‘penetrations’ that bring in light.
Eight shallow side chapels face each other. They are all adorned with altarpieces and fine paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The church of Saint-Nicolas de Myre has been a listed building since 1921.
