Written heritage, historical sources, administrative documents, trial minutes, notarial registers ... The department's "papers" are collected, listed, preserved and made available to the public.
This documentary and cultural historical centre is located in part of the Popes' Palace. It is home to 20 linearly kilometres of documents ranked in series. The oldest document dates back to 898. Access to the archives is open to all, free of charge. An ID card must be presented. This magnificent venue also displays temporary exhibitions. The Benedict XII Chapel can be visited during the Open-Door Heritage days.
