In 1865, a subscription campaign was launched for the construction of a new parish church. On March 26, 1867, the Castellane town council unanimously adopted plans and specifications dated March 18, 1867. Saint-Victor's church was considered too damp, unhealthy, in very poor condition and insufficient for the needs of the population.
