Eglise Notre Dame de Nazareth, Grande Rue, 04140 Seyne
This mesmerising church, classified as a Historical Monument in 1842, will transport you to ancient times. Enjoy the mystical athmosphère of Notre Dame de Nazareth to take a break and revitalise yourself both mentally and physically.
The first church of Seyne les Alpes was in the Arénas area (also called St Pierre), This church dedicated to St Peter could have been founded in the 4th century and, either way, during the Early Middle Ages. It was then replaced by the new parish church : Notre Dame de Nazareth.
It was built during the 13th century at the latest because many synods and provincial councils were held there between 1222 and 1371, convened by the bishop of Embrun to find a solution to local bishops' conflicts or to remind about ecclesiastical discipline.

The church of Notre Dame de Nazareth is a great example of romanesque art in Provence. You will find there two small chapels opening onto the rib vaulted choir, showcasing the transition from romanesque art to the beginning of gothic art in Provence. The ornamentation is quite sober, except for the capitals representing bodies half eaten by fantastic creatures.

Take advantage of the mystical atmosphere of Notre Dame de Nazareth to take a break and recharge your batteries mentally and spiritually.
