The Ganagobie monastery, a listed historic monument, lies on the rock-capped plateau on the banks of the Durance between Peyruis and Lurs. It is a Clunsian priory founded around the 10th century.
Like "an island in the sky," the Monastère de Ganagobie, a spiritual centre and exceptional witness to Romanesque art in Provence, enjoys an extraordinary situation hanging over the Durance valley. The austerity of the setting contrasts with the richness of its mosaic paving, unique in France.
