The Grotte de l'Escale, discovered in 1958 by Eugène Bonifay, during the construction of the EDF canal, which passes near the site, contains important paleontological deposits. Bones of birds, rodents and carnivores, but also a large deer (close to the megaceros) dating from 700,000 to 600,000 before mordern age, as well as traces of human presence (fire, rudimentary tools).
The Grotte de l'Escale is a listed historic monument. In order to protect the site, access is strictly forbidden. You can only see the entrance from the departmental road 66.
