The La Baume washhouse is relatively recent. In 1911, it replaced the one below the waterfall. It is said that the money for its construction was donated by Boniface, known as Boni de Castellane.
A dandy and patron of the arts from the Barons de Castellane family, Boni was elected deputy for the Basses-Alpes region from 1896 to 1910, and his donations were frequent. Here, however, it was the sale of a church in Castellane in 1908 that enabled the construction of the washhouse, along with other waterworks in the surrounding area: fountains, sewers and cisterns! The sober washhouse, built of local stone, has had very little time to be worn down by washing.
