The hilltop village of Eguilles, at an altitude of 300 metres, is only 10 km to the west of Aix en Provence, and has succeeded in preserving its authentic character down the ages.

Its superb geographic location offers an incomparable view over the surrounding countryside.

The village has succeeded in preserving its authentic character down the ages. In its centre stands the castle built by the Boyer d’Eguilles family in the 17th century, which now houses the town hall. In the shade of its majestic entrance, the clock has run smoothly for 140 years.

Walking through the village you will see its pretty narrow streets, typical steep flights of steps leading to the different wash-houses, and the ruins of the ancient Romanesque church.

In the village you can also see the garden of artist Max Sauze, which was listed as an Outstanding Garden in 2004, and the grave of the poet Joachim Gasquet in the village cemetery.
