A text from 981 mentions the existence of the Prieuré Saint Martin as early as the 10th century and the endowment made to the Abbey of Montmajour by the Seigneur des Baux, Pons le jeune, of land located near the ‘église Saint Martin en Félaurie’, Félaurie being the ancient name for the southern slopes of the Alpilles.
