La Rua, 05350 Molines-en-Queyras
Located halfway between the villages of La Rua and El Serre, with an independent bell tower, the church of San Román is an eye-catcher.
A church outside the village, what a curiosity! Perhaps you think that it was not very practical for the inhabitants of Molines? It is however in a strategic place, at the crossroads of the roads leading to the Agnel pass and to Saint-Véran. In the middle of the cultivated plain it is more visible than if it were in one of the villages. As a result, Molines does not have a chief town, no village having any pre-eminence over the others.
The church was destroyed during the Wars of Religion and rebuilt between 1628 and 1637. Inside you will discover an imposing baroque decoration realized at the end of the XVIIth century.
Another particularity, the cemetery which surrounds it places the deceased chronologically and not by family, except for some vaults.
