The rock still visible on either side of the street closed the North-West access as a natural rampart. In the sixteenth century, the Saorgians no longer feared the tendeasques, also attached to the Duchy of Savoy.
The rock is pierced, hence the name «Incisa», improving access and avoiding the passage through the Salines pass. The central street is then extended and this area is urbanized, with the construction of houses and the chapel of the red penitents.
