In the early 1860s, a church was built in the neighboring hamlet of Robion. So as not to leave Petit Robion without religious protection, this oratory was built at the same time.
It is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, whose feast day on June 24 heralds the start of summer and provides the occasion for the famous St. John bonfire. The shape of the oratory is sophisticated and unusual for a small hamlet.
It is built on the same model as the oratories on the Roc Way of the Cross in Castellane. The same parish priest officiated in both parishes, which no doubt explains why the model was so widespread!
