The tower gate in the 14th-century walls is a fine example of medieval military architecture with machicolations and a loophole…
This tower gate is one of the rare vestiges of Saint-Paul de Vence's medieval town walls. It is also known as the "Porte de Vence", i.e. the Vence gate, because it faces in the direction of the town of Vence. It boasts several means of defence: machicolations at the top, a loophole on the north wall, and a portcullis whose old runners can still be seen today. The top part in brick was probably constructed in Vauban's day.
