Everything in the town evokes the memory of the great Provençal poet. The Mas du Juge, where Mistral was born in 1830, is in Maillane. This 18th century building, which entered the possession of the Mistral family in 1803, had a permanent effect on the poet's soul. It was here that he spent 25 years of his life and found the inspiration for 'Miréio', which he started to write within its walls. Since Mistral's time and despite the passing of the years, the dining room in the Mas is still in almost its original condition. The Mas du Juge recently became a venue for temporary exhibitions, seminars and receptions.
