Last vestige of the ancient city of Podium Pini, historical monument, the Monastery of the Annunciade is a symbol for the city of Menton. You can see it perched on its hill 225 metres above the sea. But if the place is discreet, it is much more generous as for the panorama it gives to see... and can be proud to have seen everything since the eleventh century, especially the edification of Menton! Little historical reminder: Inheriting the original castle of Puypin, the Lord Othon V is built a personal castle at the bottom of the nearby hill that is called Mount Othon, name that gives by contraction Menton... Later, the old castle of Puypin on the pine hill was abandoned and at the end of the Middle Ages, only the adjoining chapel remains alive. People like to pray to the Blessed Virgin, the Annunciata. In 1660, Isabella of Monaco, sister of Prince Louis I, cured of leprosy after a pilgrimage to Notre-Dame de Puypin, had the 15 stations of the Rosary built along the path that leads to the chapel. We visit it more often to pray to the Virgin Mary and to hang ex-votos. Despite the various torments such as the lack of resources, the Revolution, the change of owner, an earthquake in 1887, the Mentonnais do not cease to venerate Mary at the Annunciade. In 1922, after twenty years of vacancy following the French law on congregations, the Capuchin Brothers returned to occupy the place. In 1967, the keys of Menton were symbolically handed over to the Monastery. The last Capuchin, Brother Emmanuel, who had been alone for several years, left the monastery in 1998. It is then announced in the newspaper its sale. A sister of the Thiais Annunciades learns this from her brother who lives in the Niçoise region and talks about it to her superior mother. The project - initially absurd - matured and, in union with the Apostolic Sisters of Héverlé, the purchase of the Monastery was signed on January 24, 2000. In the year, 4 Annunciades Moniales and 4 Annunciades Apostoliques are installed, giving a new breath to the Holy Place.
