The Benedictine Abbey of Montmajour, built on a rock and proudly silhouetted above the plain of Arles, is an exceptional architectural ensemble testifying to 1,000 years of history and architecture.
Recognizable from afar by its facades pierced by the sky that it offers to the wind and the sun, the Abbey of Montmajour dominates the Crau plain at the gateway to the Camargue. On this fascinating site, the Saint-Pierre hermitage and the Saint-Maur monastery have combined their destinies, bearing witness to 8 centuries of Provencal architecture.
A place of history and spirituality, the Abbey is an invaluable source of inspiration for artists and offers a beautiful exhibition space for contemporary art.
