Musée de la mode et du costume - Fragonard

The museum project was born of a meeting between Odile Pascal, a lifelong collector of Arles costumes with her mother Magali, and Anne, Agnès and Françoise Costa, directors of the Fragonard fashion house. The collection of their mother, Hélène Costa, initiated the creation of the Musée Provençal du Costume et du Bijou in Grasse in 1997. Just before Magali Pascal's death, the Costa sisters undertook to acquire the entire Arles collection, to give it a showcase and a place of conservation, and to bring to life a life's work bringing together the history of Arles fashion in all its aspects.

Entirely renovated in keeping with its architectural and historical origins, the building has been restored to its 17th and 18th century volumes. Well-known for their work on the Yves Saint Laurent museum in Marrakech, architects Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty (Studio KO) are responsible for the museum's magnificent renovation and scenography, perfectly blending the historic envelope with their contemporary talent, echoing the collections of fashions and costumes on display, the oldest dating back to the 17th century.
