Cultural heritage building of the 19th century
The oratories mark the landscape of the communes of Provence. Traditionally, these small buildings dedicated to a saint were placed at the entrance of the village or near cultivated land, to which they provided protection. They have sometimes been joined by new buildings, but their location still draws a map of the territory and mentalities of the past.
The choice of the saint often evokes a particular congregation or event. Here, Saint-Eloi, patron saint of farriers, protects horses. Further on, Saint Roch is invoked against diseases and particularly against the plague. The Virgin remains the protective mother against all evils....
Ten oratories mark the territory of Regusse. They date mainly from the 19th century, but their origin is sometimes older.
During traditional processions, each of them was stopped in front of each other, but more frequently they were decorated with flowers by an anonymous hand, in gratitude for a vow or as an accompaniment to a prayer. Source :http://sit.pnrpaca.org/pnr_inventaire_patrimoine_bati_public/index.html
