At the heart of the Vallon de la Fontaine lies the Pavillon de la Reine Jeanne, also known as the "Temple of Love". This Renaissance-style temple inspired Frédéric Mistral, who made a copy for his tomb.
Nestled in the Valley of La Fontaine, near the old wash house, is an elegant Renaissance-style corner pavilion built by Jeanne de Quiqueran, widow of Honoré des Martins, Baron of Les Baux from 1568 to 1581. Frédéric Mistral had a copy made for his tomb in Maillane. The site has been baptised 'Temple of Love' by the Félibres, writers in Occitan, in memory of the legendary lessons in love given there. This small temple was build according to a hexagonal plan. With its ornamental architecture, it adorned a garden belonging to the Les Baux family and was known as 'Count's Garden' or 'King's Orchard'. The grotesque masks above the fluted columns are slightly surprising.
