Le Moulin Peyre is an old oil mill located in Mouriès in the Alpilles.
The Moulin Peyre is an olive oil mill dating back to 1654.
Built of stone, it bears witness to the region's traditional expertise in olive oil production. For many years, it was used to press olives and produce oil, an essential product for the local economy.
It belonged to the Peyre family, an ‘old family’ of Mouriès, before being acquired by the municipality of Mouriès.
After restoration and renovation, Moulin Peyre is now a municipal building that houses the community centre and a museum showcasing the village's olive-growing past.
A permanent exhibition presents heritage objects related to agricultural festivals and traditions. You can also find objects from archaeological excavations carried out by the Mouriès Archaeological Group at the Caisses de Jean-Jean oppidum site.
The mill room is only accessible during events organised by the municipality or associations.
The Parc du Moulin Peyre is a park open to the public, which hosts various events throughout the year, such as concerts, community meals and the traditional pottery market.
